About Nexus Caravan & Camping Club

Nexus is a caravan and camping club formed to cater primarily for members of Gen X and Gen Y. We are an inclusive club that embraces all modes of mobile accommodation - caravans, camper trailers, tents, and even swags.

Our aim is to provide a forum for younger people (and the young at heart) to experience the best that the outdoor life can offer. We do this by organising events and activities that centre around the caravaning and camping lifestyle, while catering for the tastes of the younger generations - winery and brewery tours, action sports, music festivals etc.

While based in Sydneys north, our strong online presence enables us to be relatively free from traditional geographical constraints at the organisational and management levels by embracing digital communication and social media.

As an inclusive club, we are pet friendly, kid friendly and motorbike friendly. To be a part of the Nexus community all you need is a zest for living life to the full, and a passion for caravaning or camping.

How It All Began

It was mid 2012 when Sam & Pete bought a beat up old Franklin caravan and started travelling around this great land of ours.

They loved the freedom it afforded and all the great sights and experiences. After a while they started "tagging along" with Sam's parents caravan club. The cameraderie and social aspect of travelling with a club made it that much more fun, but there was something missing. As nice as these folks were, they were somewhat... old. And their choice of activities were pretty tame.

Sam & Pete decided to go in search of a caravan or camping club that catered more to their tastes and age group, but couldn't find anything that really fit the bill. So you know what??

Let's just start our own! So here we are, paperwork filed with the authorities, logos designed, t-shirts printed & plans afoot.

Want to come camping??

FAQ

So what's this "Nexus" thing all about? The Nexus Caravan And Camping Club is an association incorporated in the state of NSW. We were founded to provide a platform for likeminded individuals to plan and organise caravaning and camping activities aimed to towards younger people.
What's with the name then? From the Oxford English Dictionary:

Nexus noun
1. A connection or series of connections linking two or more things.
2. A central or focal point.

Plus it's got an "X" in the middle of the word which makes it cool.
You mentioned "young people", do you have an age limit? While we don't have an age limit as such, our activities and attitude are aimed towards people who could be loosely classified as Gen X or Gen Y.
Older people are welcome to join up, but should be aware they will be expected to keep up or be left behind.
But I go camping anyway, why should I join your stupid club? Many reasons actually, including but not limited to:

  • The camaraderie and sense of belonging that comes from being part of a community of people who share your interests.
  • $$$. Quite often camp grounds and holiday parks will discounts to incorporated clubs. Also, as we expand we are planning on approaching companies to "partner" with us to obtain discounts on all sorts of things relevant to the lifestyle.
  • As a club registered with the state association we are afforded the protection of their public liability insurance in case of mishaps and accidents.
  • All the cool Nexus branded merchandise.
  • Fair enough, but I'd like to see what you're about before I fork over my hard earned...Well that's not really a question, but I'll answer anyway.
You're more than welcome to come along to Nexus rallies and events within reason, but if it becomes a regular thing then we'll expect you to join up.

    Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival 2016

    When?March 18-20 2016
Where?Festival is at Kurri Kurri NSW
    Staying at Cessnock Showground
    Pet Friendly?Yes!

Crack out the bobby socks and hair grease guys and dolls! It's time for a bit of old fashioned fifties fun!

2016 will mark our second trip to the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival, and after all the fun we have last time we couldn't not go back. Classic cars, bikes & teardrops. Rockabilly and swing. Leather jackets and classic fashion. Markets and sideshow games. What's not to love?

There's plenty more info at the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival website.

We'll be staying at Cessnock Showground which is about a 10 drive from Kurri Kurri. Amenities are basic, but they have power, water and a toilet block. There may even be a farmers market on the Sunday morning.

Check out the gallery from when we went last time for a bit more of an idea of what it all about.

    Nexus Winter Wine Retreat 2016

    When?June 11-13 2016
    Where?McNamara Park, Broke, NSW
    Pet Friendly?Yes!

Winter be damned! Woollen jumpers, glowing braziers, and a bottle of warming wine from our favourite secret wine region.

Forget the hustle and bustle of those big soulless cellar doors in Pokolbin. Just west of the big guys is the Hunter Valley's best kept secret, the Broke Fordwich Wine Region.

Boutique cellar doors all the way along Milbrodale Rd. These are top shelf wines that you won't find at BWS or Dan's, as they only sell to high end restaurants and through their own Cellar Doors.

A warning that McNamara park has no power or water, but it does have a small toilet block. There's also the Broke General Store across the road that is usually pretty well stocked.
